Shopify product page audit

Shopify product page audit: copy that survives a claims check

On Shopify the product description is only one of eight places a claim can live. We check all of them against your actual product facts and return three lines per claim: what holds up, what needs a source, and what should be rewritten. The first page is free.

The eight places a claim hides on a Shopify page

  1. Product title — material and capacity words in the name itself.
  2. Description body — the obvious one, and usually the most carefully written.
  3. SEO title and meta description — written fast, rarely re-read, indexed publicly.
  4. Image alt text — often copied from a claim that was removed from the body.
  5. Variant names — size and material wording that drifts from the parent product.
  6. Metafields — care, material and certification values that drive theme blocks.
  7. Collection copy — category pages that repeat a claim for every product in them.
  8. Structured data and feeds — what Google and every sales channel actually reads.

What we find most often

Environmental claims

“Sustainable”, “eco-friendly”, “carbon neutral”, “recycled” — statements that regulators now ask sellers to substantiate with a recognised basis.

Certificates without identifiers

OEKO-TEX, GOTS, FSC, B Corp named on the page, with no number, date or tested scope anywhere near them.

Measurable claims, no measurement

“Resistant to shrinkage”, “quick to dry”, “lasts for years” — each one needs a protocol and a number.

Missing buyer facts

No weight, no care line, no “what is in the box”. These are the questions that turn into returns and support tickets.

What the findings look like

Contradiction. A bedding page stated the fitted sheets “work with any mattress depth” and then, a few lines later, “if your mattress is shorter than standard, you may have a looser fit” The first line sells; the second is the one a customer quotes in a return request.
Claim without an identifier. “OEKO-TEX certified and free of any harmful chemicals” The certificate is named, the number, date and tested scope are missing.
Absolute outcome. “No more scratches.” No test, no conditions, no caveat about the surface underneath.

How it works

  1. Send one product URL.
  2. We read the page against your product facts and tag every claim as holds up, needs a source or rewrite.
  3. You get the annotated page and a rewrite block you can paste straight into the product editor, with placeholders for the document or certificate that closes each open claim.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need collaborator access to my store?

Not for the free check — a public product URL is enough. For store-wide work we use a product export or CSV, so nothing in your admin needs to change.

Will this conflict with my theme or apps?

No. The audit changes text only: product fields, SEO fields, alt text, metafields and collection copy.

Can you check claims that come from my supplier?

Yes, and that is usually where the problem is. Supplier copy is written to sell, not to be documented, and it is the copy most likely to sit unchanged for years.

Do you also write new product copy?

Yes. Full product page copy is available as a package, written so that every sentence can be traced to a product fact.

How fast is the free check?

One business day for a single page.
