Product description audit

Product description audit: what to keep, what to prove, what to rewrite

A description usually fails for one of four reasons, and none of them is “the writing is bad”. We read yours sentence by sentence against your product facts and return the annotated version plus the rewrite. The first description is free.

The four ways a description fails

It promises what you cannot prove

One sentence carries a safety, health, material or environmental claim. It reads well, sells well, and cannot be documented if anyone asks.

It contradicts itself

The description says one material, the specification table says another. The buyer notices before you do, usually after the order.

It answers nothing the buyer asked

Weight, dimensions, what is in the box, how to care for it — the questions that decide the purchase are missing from the page.

It uses space without earning it

Sentences that repeat the category, describe the obvious, or say “premium quality”. They occupy the place where a verifiable fact should stand.

How the audit is structured

MarkWhat it meansWhat you receive
Holds up The sentence is specific and traceable to a product fact. Left unchanged. Often promoted to the top of the page.
Needs a source The claim may be true, but nothing on the page proves it. A rewritten line that stays true without the document, plus a placeholder for the test report, certificate number or study.
Rewrite The sentence creates risk or says nothing measurable. A replacement sentence with the same selling intent and a verifiable basis.
Missing A buyer question with no answer anywhere on the page. The fact to add and the place to add it.

Before and after, from a real audit

Before. “Quick to dry + resistant to shrinkage.” No wash protocol, no dry time, no shrinkage percentage. It is a claim a reviewer can ask you to evidence and a customer can dispute.
After. “Waffle weave, air-dries in about 40 minutes; shrinkage under 3% after 20 washes at 40°C.” Same promise, now measurable — and it converts better, because the number is the proof.
Also flagged on that page. “Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified” Certificate named, certificate number and date missing. Three fields to add, nothing to remove.

Frequently asked questions

Do you rewrite the whole description or only the problems?

Only the sentences that carry risk or say nothing measurable, unless you ask for a full rewrite. Most audits change five to eight lines and leave the rest.

Will the rewrite hurt my search traffic?

We keep the terms that earn the traffic and remove the risk. If a flagged keyword is genuinely the reason people find you, we rewrite the sentence around it rather than deleting it.

What if I do not have the documents behind a claim?

That is the normal case. You still get a version of the line that is true without the document, and a clear list of what to collect from your supplier if you want to keep the stronger claim.

Do you audit descriptions written by AI tools?

Often, and they fail in a predictable way: fluent sentences carrying claims nobody verified. The audit is the same.

Which languages do you work in?

Audits are delivered in English; rewrites can be delivered in the language of your storefront.
